This setting of the Gloria by David Davies (b. 1973) was written in 2011 for the choristers of Exeter Cathedral, and was intended for liturgical use in the context of existing Mass settings scored for upper voices that contain Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei movements only. Propelled forward by a fluid organ accompaniment, the steadier, more reflective, middle section quotes two Gregorian chants for Our Lady: Salve Regina and Ave Maria.
